In the tech world, there are few subjects I lament more than the dismal battery specs that haunt the Apple Watch. Eight generations later, Apple hasn’t exceeded its 18-hour claim (which, thankfully, is more like 24 hours on hand). For this reason, a charging routine is crucial to getting the most out of your wearable, and this requires a reliable charger.
The Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger aims to alleviate the woes of charging your Apple Watch, in addition to doing a little more. The pad’s multi-device design can power your watch, iPhone, and AirPods all at once. It features proprietary Apple charging modules to deliver fast wireless charging up to 15W and compatibility with all MagSafe-enabled iPhones. In short, it can turn any surface within walking distance of an outlet into an instant powerhouse. It even comes with a 30W USB-C wall adapter.
All that said, the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger doesn’t come cheap. I mention this early because the follow-up is that it’s also not necessary for everyone. This is not the best multi-device charger nor is it the most powerful in terms of charging speeds. What you pay for (and what I can confirm you get) is a very comfortable travel companion.
Unlike heavier platform-style charging pads, the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger is slim, lightweight, and foldable. When you’re done charging your devices, you can fold the pad into a neat square shape of about 3.5 inches. In just a week’s time, he’s joined me as I sit at home, telecommute at a coffee shop, and wait thirty minutes to call me to the doctor’s office. He also made the rounds to every possible reading nook in my house. The portability of the charger is very convenient. Although I didn’t book any trips during my Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe review period, it easily earned a spot in the future in my suitcase.
The standout feature of the Mophie 3-in-1 Charger is its foldable design, which makes it great for travel.
For more streamlined travel, the device comes with a felt carrying case with slots for the charging pad, a one-meter cable, and a power adapter. The case is made of gray felt with a loop and button closure. The carrying case is nearly seven inches long, but it’s still light and fits easily into my bag. I considered ditching the case for one outing to save space, but the fact that it traps the charger cable is worth it. Unfortunately, the charger does not include any form of cable management.
Like some of its competitors, the Mophie charger includes an adjustable Apple Watch dock. You can lay your watch flat or charge it upright to use the table mode. This is a nice detail, especially considering that you may not have a visible bedside clock while traveling.
Unfortunately, the charging disc is a standard Apple Watch charger rather than a fast charging unit. The Apple Watch Series 8 took two hours and forty minutes to reach a full charge, which is less than ideal in an on-the-go scenario. My Apple Watch Ultra lasted more than three hours. If you’re charging overnight, these specs might not be inconvenient, but then you miss out on sleep tracking.
If you choose to charge in daylight, you’ll likely also notice the relatively cheap look of the inside of the charging pad. When folded, the travel charger displays a brushed gray fabric. A hidden magnet keeps the pillow in its folded, yoga-like shape. After you open it up, the charger loses its elegance and you’re left with less bulky plastic. The charger extended outward looks economical and even a little sloppy. This isn’t a deal breaker if you’re strictly after a travel supplement, but I personally wouldn’t make this an at-home staple. The overall impression is not as elegant as the other options.
