TL; DR

  • A Korean news outlet has claimed that Samsung is working on an Exynos 2400 chipset.
  • And it confirms that Samsung hopes to use it in the Galaxy S24 series next year.
  • A tipster on Twitter has claimed that the chipset could arrive in some basic S24 models.

Update: April 25, 2023 (1:43 a.m. ET): We first heard a story earlier this month (see original article below) about the Exynos 2400 possibly landing inside the Galaxy S24 2024 series. Now, another source has echoed those claims while offering additional confirmations.

Twitter leaker RGcloudS He claimed that the base Galaxy S24 could arrive with Exynos 2400 chipset in “limited” capacity. The leak adds that Samsung will likely use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for the Plus and Ultra variants.

The guide notes that they haven’t fully confirmed this claim yet, plus we’re not sure of their track record. Throw in a deal between Samsung and Qualcomm, so we’re going to take these rumors with a heavy dose of salt for now.

Original article: April 3, 2023 (8:06 a.m. ET): The Galaxy S23 series marks the first time since 2015 that the Galaxy S family is powered by a single processor, with all three Galaxy S23 models being powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. We expect this to be the case for the 2024 Galaxy S24 series as well, but the agency Korean news reports otherwise.

the mile Business news releases report that Samsung is developing the Exynos 2400 processor, with an eye on its use in the Galaxy S24 series next year. The publication further confirms that the chip is expected to be mass-produced in November 2023 at the earliest.

However, we are not sure about this report. The biggest reason for our skepticism is the fact that Qualcomm and Samsung signed a deal in 2022 that makes Qualcomm Snapdragon chips the only chip inside the Galaxy S flagship phones.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon noted at the time that this was a “multi-year” deal, suggesting that the Galaxy S24 series would only be powered by Snapdragon silicon as well. So we’re definitely not holding our breath for the Exynos-powered Galaxy S24 series in 2024.

Galaxy S23 FE with Exynos 2200 incoming?

Unlike that, mile A recent report also confirmed that the Galaxy S23 FE is on the way and will be powered by last year’s Exynos 2200 processor. The publication confirmed that the phone will land in H2 2023 and that it may cost 800,000 won (~$608). It also claimed that Samsung had improved the Exynos 2200’s yield by making unspecified “design changes”.

For what it’s worth, rumors in the run-up to the Galaxy S22’s launch suggested that Samsung had significantly lowered the clock speed of the Exynos 2200 GPU due to heating concerns. So we’ll likely be looking at better performance and/or efficiency from the Galaxy S22 series if the company has already made design-related changes.

Will you buy the Exynos 2200-powered Galaxy S23 FE?
