- Claimed dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 surface online.
- They suggest that folding is thinner, lighter, and features fewer gaps when folded.
- While the Galaxy Z Fold 4 weighs 263g, the rear can only weigh 254g.
Early this month, we learned that Samsung’s most anticipated foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, could be even lighter than its predecessor. New information confirms this with additional details.
According to reliable tipster Ice Universe, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 will have a length of 154.9mm, which is slightly shorter than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Similarly, we can see a Z Fold 5 with a width of 129.9mm. The previous model settled in at 130.1mm, which again is a tiny difference. We can also see a smaller 0.2mm difference in the Z Fold 5’s overall thickness when opened with the predecessor in comparison.
Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to measure 154.9 x 67.1 x 13.4mm when folded and 154.9 x 129.9 x 6.3mm when unfolded.

Ice Universe further notes that this doesn’t make any significant difference to the phone’s overall display when closed. Since it is said to have a 6.2-inch external display, the same screen size we’ve seen from Samsung’s foldable devices as recently as the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
However, the alleged total thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 could settle at 13.4mm when closed instead of hovering between 14.2~15.8mm as on the previous model. This means that we have to get rid of the gap left by the previous Galaxy folds when closing the phone.
According to tipster, this would also put the Galaxy Z Fold 5 at 254g, while the Z Fold 4 weighs 263g. Conversely, a previous report from ETNews suggested that the alleged Z Fold 5 would measure 250 grams instead. Ice Universe further predicts that this year’s Z Fold 5 will carry the smallest footprint of the Z Fold series.
The Z Fold 5 is also expected to feature a foldable display of the same size as its predecessor.
Meanwhile, other reports have hinted that Samsung is settling for the same charging speeds as previous models, which are 25W. It was interesting to see Samsung opt for 45W this time around, as seen on its flagship, the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
In addition, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are expected to be launched soon this year. A recent report tells us that we could see the launch of foldable devices most likely in July, a month early, because for the first time, Google may bring the direct competitor to the best foldable phone market in June with the Pixel Fold, right after Google I/O 2023.
