Disney's latest and biggest round of layoffs has begun

After CEO Bob Iger announced back in March that Disney was seeking to lay off about 7,000 employees, Reuters Reports indicate that the second round of shooting began today and is expected to continue through Thursday before picking up again later this year. While the frontline hourly workers at Disney parks and resorts are not expected to be affected by the layoffs, cuts are being made across a number of the company’s arms, such as ESPN, Disney Entertainment, the Products division and Disney Parks leadership. .

“Senior leadership teams are working hard to define our future organization, and our biggest priority is getting this right, rather than getting it done quickly,” Disney Entertainment co-presidents Alan Bergman and Dana Walden said in an internal memo to employees. “We realize it has been a period of uncertainty and we thank all of you for your understanding and patience.”
